Drink Coffee? Skip Breakfast? Love Chocolate? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you nee

At home and offshore morning cups of coffee are basically mandatory; but this summer it was too hot for a steaming cup of coffee.

This is an easy blended coffee recipe for you if you have little time in the morning and you end up skipping breakfast (like my hubby...eye roll...who I have to force feed breakfast). You get your jolt of caffeine + protein to start your day. All you need for this recipe is FOUR ingredients: coffee, ice, 1 scoop of protein powder, and frozen bananas. Blend together, serve, and go! If you're always on the lookout for an excuse to have chocolate like me, you can also add cocoa nibs on top. This is also a great midmorning or early afternoon snack, if you need a little pick-me-up.

#1 Cold Coffee: I brew the night before and refrigerate over night OR if you want to get fancy and you have a French Press check out this method from the Kitchn. My current coffee obsession? Jose's Vanilla Nut Beans you can get at Costco.... the smell of these coffee beans are honestly worth the purchase.

#2 Ice: BUT not just any ice... almond milk ice! Most blended coffee drinks use regular ol' ice, but that waters down your coffee & then you have to add extra cream. Freeze your favorite milk product in an ice tray overnight. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but any milk product works (cashew, coconut, cow milk). We recently discovered Chase is allergic to milk so I freeze regular milk for him.

#3 1 Scoop of Protein Powder: Let me tell you, it took me a while to get on board with the whole protein powder movement. I work out every morning but protein powder..? I didn't want to be a body builder. After enough research on the metabolism boosting and fat-burning benefits of protein, I bought my first jar of whey protein and never looked back. These are my favorite proteins from Ralphs, Whole Foods and Amazon. I usually use vanilla protein powder but chocolate protein powder would turn this blended coffee drink into a mocha. This is an especially important ingredient if you are the type that skips breakfast!

#4 Frozen Bananas: Some dessert Chase had offshore made him suggest adding frozen bananas to this blended coffee drink. At first I was like... frozen bananas... and coffee...? Obviously I made Chase try this first and ended up drinking most of his...oops. Frozen bananas give this drink a creamy and shake-like texture.

Hate bananas? Ditch 'em.

Optional Topping: Cocoa Nibs No explanation needed, just a suggestion from one choco-holic to another.
