Make Ahead Monday, Thanksgiving Edition: Apple Cider Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry sauces tend to be one of two things... canned or fresh berries loaded with sugar. And although I hardly complain about anything being loaded with sugar, this is one area I prefer less sweet, and more tart. Between apple cider, granny smith apples, and orange zest, these cranberries get to keep their tangy flavor and just a bit of maple syrup makes them sweet ;). Not only is this recipe WAY easy, but it actually tastes better if you let it sit in the fridge for a day or two before Thanksgiving. Grab your cranberries and make these babies tonight!!

Ingredients:

  • 2 12 ounces bags fresh cranberries

  • 1 cup maple syrup

  • 1 small granny smith apple

  • 3/4 cup apple cider

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Zest of 2 oranges

  • Pinch of nutmeg

  • Pinch of all spice

  • Pinch of ground cloves

Directions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes until the sauce has thickened.

  2. Cool and refrigerate for up to two days.
